October 3, 2020

It's here, it's here.  October is here, and with it cooler weather, birthdays, and Halloween.  Best of all, it's time for the virtual Half Marathon!  We're all trained up and  ready for that cool morning when the big race is here.  If only it were a real competitive in person race!  We can make the best of it in the virtual sense, and compete against ourselves.

Last weekend, it was taper week, and the point of reducing the mileage, while keeping the body rested and strong for the race.  It's hard to do, but smart to do if you want the best race you can have.  A few of the BOR group went to Alaska for a marathon, and some an unexpected ultra marathon.  That can happen when the direction sign blows over.  Mom of 6 found a marathon in Omaha Nebraska, and ran a great time as usual.  Congrats to all!

This weekend, as mentioned above, Team 13 will have a virtual Half Marathon route for those that want to run it, and if you want to get the miles another time, and you have until October 17 to turn in your race time.  The start will be from the Old Y at 7 am. The 8K start will be at the Old Courthouse steps.

In local racing, as mentioned above, get signed up to do the Virtual Y Half Marathon, and turn in your time by October 17.  If you want to get in the other Virtual races, see the sites below.  I don't see any other races on the schedules for this weekend, but look for yourself, as I have been know to overlook races.  Have fun out there, and have your best race!

September 26, 2020

Here we are, in the last weekend in September, and Fall is upon us.  The weather is feeling like Fall, and the humidity is more breathable!

Last weekend Team 13 had their longest, long run of 11 miles.  For those that it is the longest you have ran, Congratulations!  Some of you are into the virtual races, and others are training for when the marathons get going.  It looks from the Facebook posts that some have had some pavement kisses, and have battle scars from running tough races.  Be careful out there, you only have one body.  Keep it healthy and protect it from those bumps in the road.  A big congrats to Cathy and Big Sexy for a 60 mile training run on Saturday!

This weekend, Team 13 will do an 8 mile training run starting at Garvin Park at 7am.  The BOR group will start at the Y at 6:30 am, and run to the park, including the big loop, and meet up at the fountain area to start the 8 mile run.  The route back to the y will give you the normal run 12 miles.  If you are in the marathon deep training, and need a 20 miler, do the Y start, do 2 loops of 8 and return to the Y.

In racing this weekend, some are in Alaska for a marathon on Sunday.  Good luck to Miki, Jen, Martha, and Marr Elise.  Keep a safe distance from the bears! 😏 Locally, there are still some of the virtual races, so if you are interested, get signed up before it's too late.  The Y Virtual Half Marathon is still an option, now that you are trained up, sign up and run it virtually, and test your body for a half marathon.  Check out the sites below.

September 19, 2020

Weekend 3 of November, and the weather is starting to show signs of the approaching fall season.  Cooler weather is on it's way! Hurrah!  I for one is looking forward to the cold weather.  I know some like it warm, but anyone that knows me, understands my love for cold.

This past weekend, no local races happened, and Team 13 had their 15 K virtual run at training on Saturday.  I hope everyone was able to get a feel of their bodies condition in respect to the 15 K distance.  It was cooler, but the humidity was out the roof.  Some of the locals, were able to get in their virtual Boston Marathon.  It has to be such a disappointment to not get it done in person.  As usual, Mom O Six, Michelle Walker, found a marathon to run.  Cathy Downes and Jen Metcalf found some rough terrain racing over the weekend, and on Tuesday when they ran their training, the effects of stiffness was still apparent in their running form!

This weekend, Team 13 is meeting at Wesselmans' at 7 am, for an 11 mile training route.  The BOR group can meet at the Y for a good long 19 mile training run and join up with the Team 13 group.  If you are just wanting a 12 mile route, just add a big and little loop in the park before or after the 11.

In racing, keep in mind all of the different virtual races, as I don't see any local, in person races this weekend.  Sign up for any of these you like, or there is still time to sign up for the Y series events, especially the virtual Half Marathon.  Whatever you do, enjoy the miles and the friendships you have made with the running community!
