Saturday, January 23rd

The BOR was all over the map this past weekend, Congrats to Tim Wargel on the Houston Marathon finish, and Michelle and Allen Walker on the Bermuda Challenge Marathon Weekend. Congrats to former Evansville member and heading up the Louisiana chapter Brittlyn Sosh on her third overall female finish in the Louisiana Marathon!

So you usually head to Florida in January to run in better weather, right, not so much the case last weekend, rain and wind seem to reek havoc in a coupe locations. Jeff Hayden and Laura Hudson battled it out in Clearwater for a shortened Marathon finish and Jennifer Wagner and Sally Miles swam the St. Pete Beach Half Marathon, Congrats to you all on these tough runs!

Run Preview for next week from Sheri

Next Saturday, January 30th, it will be time to run across the big town of Evansville. This one takes a little more planning because it is a One Way street. We have never had anyone stranded. We usually start at the Cracker Barrel - meet at 6:00am and decide who is driving and who is keeping their car behind. Most important in the planning is to make sure you are getting a ride with someone who matches your breakfast plans.

If you start at the Westside Walmart the total mileage will be 12.2 miles, plus add-ons. Since this a longer course I am going to the 12 milers at 6:30 from Walmart and 9.5 miler from Pizza King at 6:45. If you want only to do the 7.5 miles starting from the YMCA you can start at 7:15am. If you are only doing 5 miles, my suggestion would be to meet at the Donut Bank on Lincoln at approximately 7:30.

For the core 12+ miles:
Starting from West Side Walmart, east end of the back parking lot.
R on Red Bank
L on Claremont
L on Barker
R on Franklin
Water at Pizza King (9.5 mile will start at 6:45)
Continue on Franklin to Mary
R on Mary R on Court
L on 6th
YMCA bathrooms-water stop (7.5 mile will start at 7:15)
Continue on 6th Street
L on Sycamore
R on MLK
L on Walnut
R on St. James
L on Bellemeade
L on Cullen (Water stop)
R on Lincoln
L on Fuquay
R on E Walnut
Around Lake to Final Destination
Cracker Barrel

*Add on Alvord to Washington and back to Bellemeade or Plaza-end and back, can add approximately 1 mile each street.

Now for this week, below is several mileage options towards the East, hopefully the weather clears enough to make for a good weekend.

See you Saturday!

A Norma Tec Experience
by Jeffrey Hayden

Thought I would share a few words about my experience about the Norma Tec Leg Compression's that Ultimate Fit has at their shop. During one of my days off at Christmas break I promised myself that I would be treated with a half an hour of this talk of the town amongst runners. Cindy, Curt and Jim were very accommodating and set me up in a comfortable laid back chair with a leg stool to keep the limbs elevated.

The compression sleeves were very easy to put on and the instructions on to operate were quite simple. The compressor that operates the compressing part was surprisingly a very low hum. The settings for the compression on the legs and feet go from one to seven so I chose to operate on the number six level. It was a timely segmented compression that starts from your feet and works up thru the calves to your quads.

t works better than a roller or stick but my only complaint is while compressing my feet it was a bit painful on my bunions to which it never really allowed me to feel how it was working on my arches. The next time I will see if there is better ways situate my gnarly messed up feet to prevent that. Overall I was pleased with the session and would definitely try it again on the highest level. I will leave you with a few suggestions if you decide to give it a try;

Number one is wearing some running shorts under your long pants or jeans for easy changing there on the spot. They do have a small change room if preferred.

Consider bringing reading material be it your phone, magazine or book just to pass the time if you go for an hour session.

Lastly keep in mind that this is similar to a massage so you want to drink plenty of water after the session to flush all the impurities out of your system that the compressing broke up.

Hope this helps if you were on the fence of this new apparatus.

NormaTec Pricing
30 Minute Session - $25.00
5 x 30 Minute Session - $115.00
10 x 30 Minute Session - $210.00
20 x 30 Minute Session - $380.00
1 Hour Session - $40.00
5 x 1 Hour Session - $175.00
10 x 1 Hour Session - $300.00
20 x 1 Hour Session - $500.00
* You can choose legs only, hips only
or split the time between the two.
