Saturday, July 5th

Where to start this week, how about Auburn, California where our own Dave Nichols took on and conquered the oldest and most prestigious 100 mile trail race, the Western States 100. Dave certainly provided an exciting, inspiring and nail biting 29+ hours. Congratulations Dave on this major accomplishment and a big round of applause to Craig Luebke, Robert Yehling and Don Nichols who paced and encouraged to help make it happen. I’m sure everyone can’t wait to hear the stories on this one.

Now to Franklin Street, where a few brave took on the first ever Franklin Street Marathon, some solo efforts and some teams, Congrats to all who took part on a muggy June night. Saturday morning brought both more warmth and more racing, Congrats to everyone who took part and those who age grouped in the Colon Run downtown, looked like a very fast race again this year.

And out of Africa, Congrats to Michelle Walker, another marathon another continent, this one may have had a little too much wildlife for my taste!

In non-running news, the first stop on the BOR Wine Tour was a success! Great weather, music , wine and company. Thanks to those who were able to make it to Mystique Winery Saturday afternoon, next up Ruby Moon in Henderson, KY, date TBD.

Good Luck to those heading down to Sebree, KY on the 4th of July for one of the oldest races around, always hot but always a good time.

After the ½ marathon preview last week, we’ll head West this weekend, below are a few options for Saturday morning. Everyone have a Happy and Safe 4th of July.

See you Saturday!

June Pizza: The Vault

The best part about this pizza was the convenience factor, six floors down. A decent sauce, the crust was not awful but also not crispy. We went with tomato and mushroom for toppings which were a little light, and the cheese was slices not shredded and a little thick for my taste. Overall, I have to say ordering a pizza and taking the elevator down to pick it up makes this pizza work in a pinch and probably another try.
