February 15, 2020

Weekend 3 of  February and we have either had cold or wet this month.  Last weekend we had Hearts on Fire 5 K at USI, and some of the ultra runners went to Louisville KY, for up to a 50 K.  Reich went down to NOLA to run a marathon there also.   Hoping everyone that raced enjoyed the race and got the desired results!

This weekend and the next are two of my favorites, because they involve eating breakfast after the run.  This weekend Run Walk 812 is running across town and from distances you want, up to 12 miles for the Cracker Barrel Run.  The longest starting point is from the Westside Walmart at 6:30 am, for 9.5 miles, start at Pizza King on St. Joe at 6:45, for 7 miles start at the Y downtown, for 5.5 miles at 7:15 am, start at Donut Bank on Lincoln at 7:30 am.  Get with your friends to work out the logistics of dropping off cars to get a return ride to you starting point.  The BOR group that don't plan to eat, will start at the downtown Y at 7 am, and run out to Cracker Barrel and then back reverse the outgoing route for 14 miles, or if you want to eat there, you can start and finish from there to the Y and back.  The Loop Group will start their loops from the lot off of Lincoln at the State Hospital at 7 am.

I mentioned my two favorite runs, and the second run is the following weekend on February 22, which is the Team 13 Pancake Days reunion run starting and finishing at Garvin Park, near the Dream Center which is where the Pancake Days Breakfast is being held this year.  Keep that date open and plan to attend one of the breakfast days from the 21st to the 23rd of February.

This weekend in racing, there is the Presidents Day Race at Garvin Park on Feb. 16 at 2 pm.  For the Marathoners, the Mercedes Marathon is one that many like to run and is Feb. 15, in Birmingham AL.
Whether racing or training, have fun!

A Look ahead, on the evening of February 22, it's the 3rd annual Sweetheart Sock Hop to benefit needs at Ozanam. It will be held at the VFW post located at 110 Wabash Ave. Last year many of the runners came out to enjoy an evening of dancing for this good cause. As always, be courteous and thoughtful to the drivers, while running the streets!
